Artificial grass for dogs, kennels and dog runs
A real lawn doesn't stand much chance against a dog, and most of it ends up on your kitchen floor. Artificial grass sorts that out, as long as there's a proper stone base under it for the urine to drain into.
No mud, no digging
They can't dig it up, and they come in from the garden after rain with clean paws.
Drainage first
Urine has to drain down through the grass and into the stone below. That's where most of our effort goes, and more so on kennels and runs.
Easy to keep clean
Lift the solids and hose the area down. Every so often, use a pet-safe cleaner made for artificial grass.
Gardens, kennels and runs
We fit it for the family dog at home, and for kennels and dog runs where the grass gets a hammering.
What makes artificial grass work for dogs
The grass itself is only half the job. Urine needs somewhere to go, so the grass has a perforated backing and sits on compacted, free-draining stone rather than soil. Laid like that, the rain and the odd rinse with the hose carry everything down through it. Lay the same grass straight onto soil and there’s nowhere for anything to go, and sooner or later it smells.
For a quote, send a few photos of the area on WhatsApp and tell us how many dogs will be using it. If it’s kennels or runs, show us where the water drains to at the moment.
Looking after a dog lawn
- Pick up the solids, same as you would on a real lawn.
- Hose down the spot the dog uses most. In warm weather, do it more often.
- Now and again, use a pet-safe enzyme cleaner made for artificial grass.
- Give the pile a brush up a few times a year.

Questions about dogs and kennels
Read more in our advice guides:
Will artificial grass smell if my dog uses it?
A smell nearly always means a drainage problem. On a proper free-draining base, with a rinse now and then, artificial grass for dogs stays fresh. The spot the dog uses most may need an enzyme cleaner every so often, especially in warm weather.
Can dogs damage artificial grass?
Not if the grass is decent quality and the edges are fixed down properly. Running, playing and rolling around won't hurt it. A dog that chews everything should be watched on it, the same as with anything else in the garden.
Is artificial grass suitable for kennels?
Yes. On kennels and dog runs we take extra care with the fall and drainage of the base, so the whole area can be hosed down quickly.
