Artificial grass on concrete, patios and decking
A grey concrete yard or a tired old patio can go green without anything being dug out. The grass goes straight over the hard surface, so it's one of the quickest jobs we do.
No digging out
What's there already becomes the base. The job is quicker, and there's no soil to dig out and take away.
Drainage sorted
Water has to be able to run off. We check the fall on the concrete and add drainage points anywhere it would sit.
Softer underfoot
A foam underlay under the grass takes the hardness out of a concrete yard, so it feels more like a lawn.
Yards, patios, decks and balconies
Back yards, patios, decking in good condition, roof terraces and balconies can all be covered.
Concrete yards
Plenty of houses here have a concrete yard out the back. It’s handy, but it’s grey and hard, and you’d rarely sit out in it. Artificial grass over the top gives you a green space in a day or two. See the concrete yard we covered.
Before he quotes, John will want to know where the water goes when it rains. A photo of the yard taken after a shower is handy, because it shows where the puddles sit.
Patios and decking
An old patio or deck doesn’t always have to be ripped up. If the surface underneath is sound, the grass can go over it. We also lay grass alongside new patios and decking and finish it tight where the two meet.

Questions about concrete, patios and decking
Read more in our advice guides:
Can you lay artificial grass straight onto concrete?
Yes, as long as the concrete is reasonably level and water can run off it. We usually put a foam underlay down first for comfort, and the grass is fixed at the edges.
Can artificial grass go on decking?
Yes, if the decking is sound and level. Any rotten or loose boards have to be sorted first. Water goes down through the grass and out between the boards.
