Prices and quotes
How much does artificial grass cost?
It depends on the job, so John prices each one and the quote is free. The main thing is the size of the area and what's there now (soil, an old lawn, concrete or decking), because that decides how much digging out and stone base is needed. Access matters too: if everything has to be barrowed through the house, it takes longer. Then there's the grass you pick. Send a few photos on WhatsApp and you'll have a rough idea quickly, with a free visit after that if you want one.
Do you give free quotes?
We do, and there's no obligation. Ring, send photos on WhatsApp, or fill in the quote form on this site.
Can I get free samples?
Yes. Ask for samples when you get in touch. Grass looks different out in your own garden than it does in a photo, so it's worth seeing and feeling it there before you decide.
How do I get a quote?
The quickest way is to WhatsApp two or three photos of the area with rough measurements. A photo of how we'd get in (side gate, side passage or through the house) helps too. You can also ring John or use the quote form on this site.
About us
Which areas do you cover?
We're based in Ferns, near Enniscorthy, and work all over Co. Wexford, plus Co. Waterford and Co. Wicklow. In Waterford that's mainly the city and the east of the county, and in Wicklow the south and middle. If you're further out in either county, ring and ask.
How long have you been fitting artificial grass?
More than 20 years now. In that time we've done back gardens and decks, play areas and crèches, kennels, bars and graves.
Do you do commercial jobs like bars, crèches and schools?
Yes. As well as homes, we've done beer gardens, bars, crèches and play areas, and we're happy to quote for schools. Send the size of the area and a few photos and we'll arrange a quote.
Installation
How long does it take to install artificial grass?
Most back gardens take a day or two. Small areas, graves and jobs on existing concrete are often done in a day. A big garden takes longer, and so does one where everything has to go through the house by barrow.
Will artificial grass drain properly in Irish rain?
Yes, if it's laid properly. The old soil is dug out and replaced with a stone base, compacted with a whacker plate, and the grass has a perforated backing so rain goes straight down through it. When you see an artificial lawn with puddles or a smell, it's nearly always down to a poor base.
Can artificial grass be laid on concrete or decking?
Yes. On concrete there's nothing to dig out, so it's a quicker job. The concrete has to let water run off, and we often put a foam underlay down so it's softer underfoot. On decking, the boards need to be sound and level first.
Living with artificial grass
Is artificial grass good for dogs?
Yes. They can't dig it up and there's no mud for them to bring in. Urine drains down through the grass and the stone base, and you give the area a hose down now and then. For kennels and dog runs we take extra care with the drainage.
Is artificial grass safe for children?
It's soft to play on and there's no mud, so children can be out on it all year. Under swings, slides and climbing frames we can add a shock pad for extra cushioning.
Does artificial grass need any maintenance?
Very little. Give it a brush now and again so the fibres stand up, and blow or rake the leaves off in autumn. If you have a dog, rinse the spot it uses. There's no mowing or feeding.
Does artificial grass get hot?
It does get warmer than a real lawn in strong, direct sun. On the hottest days you might want shoes on, or give it a quick rinse with the hose to cool it down. On an ordinary Irish summer's day it's grand.
Will weeds or moss grow through artificial grass?
Not from below. A weed membrane goes under the grass to stop that. The odd seed can blow in and sprout on top, but it pulls out easily. Brushing it and clearing the leaves keeps moss from getting a hold.
Graves
Can you cover a grave with artificial grass?
Yes. We clear the plot, put down a membrane and fit deep-pile artificial grass inside the kerbs, so the grave stays tidy between visits. The cemetery's rules need checking first, and we can help with that.
